Make sure you book your hire car in advance so you can start exploring as soon as you arrive.
Around Watford
Many of the best sights in the area are located outside of Watford, but within easy driving distance. Perhaps the most popular tourist attraction within close proximity of the town is the Warner Bros. Studio. The studios are dedicated to the Harry Potter films and they are truly a magical experience. You can see many of the major sets and props used in the series, as part of a 3 hour guided tour (although you can take longer if you wish).
The city of St. Albans is only a short drive away. This historic city has many different things that warrant exploring during your time here. You can visit the cathedral and wonder at the magnificence of the religious architecture, or you can soak up the culture at one of the city’s fantastic museums. St. Albans is also a cultural hotspot and if you are fortunate with your timing you may be able to take in a show or an opera.
Alternatively, if you would like a day trip slightly further afield then Oxford is an hour’s drive away. The world famous university city has a delightful atmosphere and the positivity of the locals is infectious. The stunning architecture of the colleges will have your camera working overtime and you can relax by hiring a punt and gently floating down the river.
Central London
If you’re using Watford as a base for access to London you won’t be disappointed. There are brilliant transport links into the city and within minutes you can be shopping on Oxford Street or having afternoon tea at The Ritz.
You can also head to Kensington to take in an exhibition at the Science Museum, or head next door to either the Victoria and Albert Museum or the Natural History Museum. Entrance to all the museums is totally free of charge so you can spend as long, or as little, as you like inside.
If you’ve worked up an appetite, head to Berwick Street market, where you will be able to sample any food you want, so everyone can have just what they fancy. Before you leave London, don’t forget to take in the iconic sights of Buckingham Palace, and Big Ben and Westminster before heading over to St. Paul’s Cathedral.
