Enjoy the beautiful beaches around Santander and take a walk to the lighthouse at Cabo Mayor where you will also find a museum. Having climbed to the top, the views are excellent.
There are plenty of other excellent museums in the area. Start off at the Prehistoric and Archaeological Museum, explore the maritime museum then finish off in one of the art galleries.
If you simply want to watch the world go by, then relaxing in Paseo de Pereda y Calle Castelar and gazing over at the harbour is a good start. Take a leisurely stroll along the promenade before turning inland to explore the city on foot.
Day Trips From Santander
If you are keen to explore the local region then travel to Cabarceno Natural Park. You will see a variety of animals from all over the world. Perfect for exploration by car, there are many roads that you can take to see the breathtaking scenery.
The small town of Torrelavega just a 25 minute drive away makes for an ideal excursion. Take a walk along either of the two rivers that flow through the town or visit the beautiful church and impressive town hall.
Whilst Santander boasts plenty of its own beaches, Suances is still worthy of a visit. Los Locos is probably the most well-known, and great if you fancy a spot of surfing. Alternatively, if you simply crave a fabulous sunset, Tagle is for you.
Journey just a little further afield to Santillana del Mar. Its popularity stems from its plethora of historic buildings. Once you have arrived, you will have to explore entirely on foot as no vehicles are permitted here.
