The island of Thassos itself does not contain an airport. It is advisable to fly to Kavala Airport on the mainland of Greece and hop on a ferry at Kavala Port. Begin your travels as soon as you reach your destination by collecting a hire car.

Thassos Town or Limenas is bursting with ancient sights to explore. The Old Town is right next door, where you can see the remains of two ports and evidence of excavations too. You can also see a theatre which was built around the 5th Century B.C. If you are keen to find out more about the fascinating history of the island, the Archaeological Museum is a great place to start.
Head straight to Potos. You’ll uncover a quaint little harbour town, bursting at the seams with restaurants offering local cuisine. Relax and soak up the stunning views of Mount Athos.
Travel further by car until you reach Rachoni Beach, perfect for whiling away a few summer days encircled by beautiful surroundings. Laze on the golden sand and top up your tan.
Explore Thassos further through the stunning ancient architecture. With much on offer just a short distance away in Skala Potamias, including white sandy beaches and enticing restaurants, you’ll have plenty to fill your days with.
Other Sights to Explore
Scale Mount Ipsarion and view the castle at the top. The climb may well take you a few hours so make sure that you are prepared with plenty of supplies. The views over the surrounding area are spectacular and well worth the climb.
Thassos is full of traditional villages that you should explore. Head to the northern part of the island and locate Kazaviti. The combination of the stone houses and breathtaking scenery make this area a real gem.
Drive up to the mountain village of Theologos. Discover the necropolis and understand more about conventional day to day life.
