What is There to Do in Mytilini?
One of the oldest cities in the world, Mytilini is full of surprises. Take a wander around the charming streets of Mytilini itself where endless architectural examples wait to impress and embrace the history with a visit to one of the museums. Take a break and stop for coffee at one of the many restaurants or cafés. Be sure also to visit the Church of Aghios Therapon and the Roman Aqueduct.
Day Trips on Lesvos
One of the most spectacular sights on the island is the spectacular Petrified Forest in the west of Lesvos; head to Sigri and then follow the signs. Combine it with a visit to Polichnitos, home to what are thought to be the hottest natural springs in the whole of Europe.
Be sure to visit Skala Kaloni; it's perfect for bird watching and home to a pleasant beach which proves to be a family favourite due to the shallow waters. The beach resort of Anaxos is another great option if you are planning to spend some time on the coast.
Molyvos in the north-west of the island also makes for a great day trip so it's well worth venturing here. Admire the impressive medieval castle, which situated on a hill side boasts excellent views, whilst down below, the harbour is also great to explore.
Take a drive to the town of Petra; a beach lined with restaurants and cafes and the church of the Glykfylousa Panagia atop a rock mountain in the centre. Climb the 140 steps to the top and be met with spectacular views.
Take a drive to Agios Isidoros on the southern coast. It may only be a small village but it has one of the longest beaches on the whole of Lesvos. Park up and take a stroll or truly relax with a swim. Plomari, the second largest town of the island, is just nearby and is famous for its production of high quality olive oil. There is a selection of churches and cafés placed amongst the picturesque, flower lined narrow streets.
