What is There to Do in Mykonos?
Mykonos also goes by the name of Chora and is the main town on the island. Take in all of its fascinating aspects and start with a visit to Little Venice and the Panagia Paraportiani. The asymmetrical church dates back to the 15th Century and is one of the most popular tourist spots. Meet the island's mascot, Petros the Pelican, and browse the streets which are lined with shops, museums galleries and cafes.
Day Trips on Mykonos
Take a trip to the northern most side of Mykonos and visit the Armenistis Lighthouse. It has stood on the site since 1890 and somewhat incredibly, it is still operational and offers fantastic views of the Aegean Sea. Hop back in the car for another drive around to spot the windmills dotted around the island. There are several and one of them has even been turned into a museum, Bonis Windmill.
One of the major draws of any island holiday is the proximity to the sea so take a drive to some of the gorgeous beaches on offer here, such as Elia beach, 11km south east of Mykonos. There are water sports available too including water skiing, parasailing and windsurfing so whether you like to relax or get the adrenaline pumping, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
A trip to Parnomas is also recommended; the stunning beach will be sure to satisfy your sun, surf and sand cravings. The unspoilt landscape and hot sun create the perfect environment here.
Take a drive to the village of Ano Mera and truly step back in time with a visit Panagia Tourliani. This monastery dates from 1542 and was restored in the middle of the 18th century. Both the inside and exterior of the building are impressive, making for an interesting and culture filled visit.
