Although there is no airport on the island, you can catch a ferry from Piraeus Port on the mainland or Santorini Port on the island of Santorini.
Relax on the Beach
Take your pick of a range of fabulous beaches. Gems such as Mylopotas and Agia Theodoti are truly stunning. Mylopotas is the island’s most popular spot for soaking up the warm Mediterranean sunshine with sunbeds to rent and a few bars offering refreshments.
Visitors will find that most beaches around the island are delightfully secluded, meaning you will often end up with the place to yourself. With your hire car to hand you can easily explore them all.
Sightseeing in Ios
Collect a hire car and explore the wonders of Ios Chora, also known as Ios Town. Stroll through the small streets which are lined with traditional looking houses and indulge in some retail therapy at the many shops littered throughout. During the day Ios Town resembles a peaceful Cycladic village but by night the bars and tavernas come to life and the town square becomes an open air party.
Head out and see the sights on the island. Travel towards the Church of Panagia Gremiotissa, a beautiful blue domed wonder. You can also traverse to a plethora of windmills which are close by to the town of Chora.
History enthusiasts and culture vultures will delight in a visit to Skarkos. This Bronze Age settlement has been lovingly restored, offering visitors a chance to step back in time. The site can be accessed by a paved footpath from Chora, the walk takes around 15 minutes. Admire intriguing finds from Skarkos and exhibits from other excavations on the island at the Archeological museum located in the town hall.
