What is There to do in Lyon?
Pay a visit to the Aquarium du Grand Lyon, a public aquarium located in the city of Lyon. Displaying over 5,000 animals from over 300 different species including a variety of sharks, the aquarium is definitely worth a visit.
Drive to the Vieux Lyon which is the largest Renaissance district of Lyon. Park up and begin exploring this historic district of Lyon. View a large number of visually stunning buildings that include the Cathedral of St Jean that was built over the remains of a 6th century church.
For some entertainment why not catch a show at the Maison de la Danse. It is a theatre dating back to the early 90’s. With an abundance of bars and restaurants you will have plenty of choice when it comes to food and drink.
Lyon is also home to a number of museums and art galleries. These include the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, a municipal museum of fine arts, the Musée d'art Contemporain de Lyon which is a museum devoted to contemporary art, and Musée Gadagne.
Day Trips From Lyon
A short drive from Lyon to the north east and you’ll come to the city of Geneva. Lying on the shores of Lake Geneva, the city is packed with a variety of restaurants, bars, museums, and other attractions that make a trip here worthwhile.
Hire a car and head north to the historic city of Dijon. The home of Dijon mustard boasts a wide selection of bars, restaurants, museums, and art galleries. The surrounding countryside is also covered by picturesque farms and vineyards.
Grenoble lies at the edge of the Alps and to the south east of Lyon. Once in Grenoble you’ll be presented with a wide range of things to do and see; Grenoble plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year that include the Grenoble Jazz Festival in March, the Open Air Short Film Festival in early July and the Cabaret Frappé music festival at the end of July.
If you fancy trying your hand at some winter sports, Lyon is close to a number of ski resorts. Les Crosets is great for everyone ranging from beginners to experts and the famous resort of Chamonix is also not far away!
