Explore the Black Sea Coast
If the pace and buzz of Sunny Beach gets too much for you, head to the ancient town of Nessebar. This UNESCO World Heritage town dates from around the 6th century BC. Explore the ancient buildings and discover the town’s history. Be sure to take a walk along the old city walls, parts of which hail from Roman times.
Why not visit Strandzha Natural Park? It is a fair drive, but well worth the journey. Escape the beach for a bit and experience the wonderful landscapes, diverse flora and fauna and the rivers and lakes.
Travel towards Bourgas and the gorgeous Atanasovsko Lake. Home to a wide variety of bird species and a number of species of orchid, it’s a lovely spot for naturalists. Journey into the centre of the city for a drink and something to eat before exploring some of the museums or galleries.
On the other side of Bourgas lies Sozopol. This historic coastal resort offers the best of both worlds, stunning beaches and a fantastic Old Town to explore. If you are looking to sample some local cuisine, you will have plenty of opportunities here.
The city of Varna can also be found on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. It plays host to a large port, some Roman baths, and a Dolphinarium too.
