It’s that time of year again, though perhaps less celebrated by the team now then it was when we were at school. Perhaps you’re a parent or grandparent and have been frantically planning a costume for your young one(s). Maybe you’ve skipped the planning completely and grabbed an outfit from the supermarket. Whether or not you recognise today as World Book Day, it’s important that we continue to encourage reading for the benefits that it has. The Zest team reveal their favourite books and anything they currently have open.

‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis are my probably my favourite books. Good always triumphs in the face of adversity. I’m currently reading two books at present. ‘My Story’ by Jo Malone which was a present but I’ve always admired her and so far it’s a great read. ‘The Shadow of The Wind’ by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is the second book. This is a lovely book, originally written in Spanish. It is set in Barcelona at the time of Franco. Very enlightening, and a great story. I am also listening to the complete collection of ‘Tales of The City’ by Armistead Morpeth. These are all about life in San Francisco in the 70’s and 80’s. I like to listen to audio books while doing the chores.
Pam Sexton, Finance Director

A couple spring to mind that have stuck with me. ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’, the short story by Roald Dahl. It’s very clever. ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ too, bit of an emotional rollercoaster.
Fiona Crowley, Customer Relations Manager

My favourite book when I was younger was ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ by Roald Dahl and I’m currently reading it to my son. I love anything by Roald Dahl. I could also read ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ over and over…
Charlotte Sexton, Office Manager

My favourite book is ‘The Great Escape’ by Paul Brickhill. My Grandad was a POW in WW2 so I used to read this book when I was a kid. It’s a gripping true story that you get absorbed into. I could read this book over and over again. Also has some fantastic illustrations. I’m currently reading Jenson Button’s autobiography: Life to the Limit.
Rory Sexton, Managing Director

My favourite book is ‘Retribution Falls’. It’s a sci-fi fantasy novel and the first book in a series of four called ‘Tales of the Ketty Jay’. I enjoy it as the story is gripping and provides you with plenty of depth and information for fantasy World, which feels very much lived in and has history. Some story and characters closely resemble those of the TV series Firefly, another sci-fi world I enjoy. I’m currently reading the last of book of the ‘Tales of the Ketty Jay’ series, called ‘The Ace of Skulls’.
Francis Redwood, Car Rental Expert

My favourite book is ‘Jane Eyre’ because I enjoy the strength of Jane’s character and resilience during the novel. Currently I am reading ‘Under a Pole Star’ by Steff Penney which is set around the first woman to explore the Arctic Circle.
Hannah Newman, Car Rental Expert

My favourite book at the moment is probably ‘Girl on the Train’ by Paula Hawkins – love the suspense as well as the twists in the plot. And I’m currently reading ‘Those Girls’ by Chevy Stevens.
Lara Godden, Car Rental Expert

I really enjoy the funny pictures in ‘Where’s Wally?’ and ‘Where’s Wally? The Fantastic Journey’. I’m currently reading Angry Aztecs from the Horrible Histories series- my parents recently moved and rediscovered my old copies so I’ve started to re-read them.
Tom Dickinson, Operations Manager

My favourite book is ‘Altered Carbon’ by Richard Morgan, which has just been made into a Netflix series. I’m currently reading the Firefly graphic novels, based on the TV series.
Paul Stewart, Car Rental Expert

My favourite is ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell- it’s extremely clever and explains the Russian Revolution in a way which is easier to understand. I’ve just finished reading ‘Girl on the Train’ by Paula Hawkins.
Amy Clarke, Car Rental Expert

I’m currently reading ‘Nightwalker’ by Marie Lu. It’s a Batman novel released by Penguin as part of their DC Icons series. I read a lot so it’s difficult to pick a favourite. I’d say ‘Little Women’ by Louisa May Alcott from the classics and ‘A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet’ by Becky Chambers. I prefer reading sci-fi/fantasy so this really reeled me in, but the lessons that can be taken from ‘Little Women’ will always stay with me.
