On Monday we revealed the design of the GoGoHare that we have sponsored to come to our home town of Dereham as part of the Wild in Art trail, bought to Norfolk by the charity Break.
GoGo Phareoh
We previously wrote about the trail in another blog, announcing our sponsorship of a moongazer hare as part of the first county-wide trail that extends outside the city centre of Norwich. This year marks Break’s 50th anniversary and so we chose the 50th day of the year to launch our hare.
The event was greatly attended, and we were glad to see volunteers from the local Break shop joining in the excitement.
Rory Sexton, MD of Zest, welcomed guests before Michael Rooney from Break explained a little more about the trail. Along with the Zest marketing team, the Mayor of Dereham, Hillary Bushell, helped uncover the hare.
We look forward to the summer when our regal queen, Phareoh, will be out on the streets of Dereham where visitors can delight in the fantastic design by Liverpool artist, Sophie Green. Although the design has a local connection, as Howard Carter (famous for his discovery of Tutankhamun) was raised in Swaffham, we wanted the design to incorporate a few extra ties to Dereham. Can you work out the connection?

GoGo Phareoh also displays a deer’s head and a clock face
Dereham Town Football Club are known as the Magpies. A magpie dominates the front of GoGo Phareoh, designed to fit the Egyptian theme. Sophie also included a book, as popular science-fiction author Brian Aldiss heralded from Dereham. You’ll also spot a deer, as featured on the Dereham Town Council’s logo and in the legend of St Withburga. The clock face pays homage to Metamec, an off-shoot of the furniture company Jentique, once a popular clock-manufacturer who were based in Dereham. Finally, there’s half a slice of lime… limes are popular with Zest.
