Happy New Year! We hope you got your new year off to a great start. Travelling in 2023? Here are some travel industry forecasts and top tips we have for the coming year.
Our predictions for 2023
Travel industry in 2023
High inflation and labour shortages will continue to hinder the industry with chances of increased costs and delays. However, tourism is forecasted to rise by 30% this year following a 60% growth in 2022. Although we aren’t likely to return to 2019 prices or availability yet, it’s certainly on the horizon.
Car rental in 2023
Our advice to book ahead in 2022 unfortunately still applies… Demand is going to be high again for peak seasons meaning car rental availability may become scarce. Peak seasons will be during summer and any school holidays, booking outside these dates can save you money and will guarantee more availability.
Top tips on travelling in 2023
We understand that a rise in the cost of living will cause many issues for our 2023 plans. However, following these tips can help you save money or prevent any hassle if you still decide to take a trip abroad this year!
Do your research!
Make sure to use price comparison and review websites before finalising your holiday plans. Doing plenty of research and planning prior to booking can help avoid spending more than necessary or ending up in poor accommodation!
Shop and eat local
Save by avoiding tourist traps that often ramp up prices for holiday goers that are happy to spend more. Doing some research or gaining local knowledge can help you find more authentic establishments that are likely to be far cheaper.
Cook your own food
Booking a budget villa or an accommodation with self-catering can be an effective way to save on your holiday costs. Although eating out certainly can be much cheaper abroad, doing it every night can cost a pretty penny!
Be wary of strikes and cancellations
Labour shortages are predicted to continue going into 2023 meaning there is always a chance of airport strikes or delays. If your flight is delayed and you have a booking with us, contact us and your car rental provider to let them know. Read our blog on how flight cancellations and delays can affect your car hire for more details.
Top tips on saving on your car rental
Follow these steps if you’re thinking about hiring a car in 2023.
Book in advance
Don’t leave booking your car rental to the last minute! Due to demand predicting to outstrip supply again in 2023, availability is likely to become scarce. Our strongest advice is to book in advance.
Don’t fall for “cheap”
Some car rental companies may sacrifice good service for low prices! Unreputable brokers tend to work with car rental providers that are known to hide costs, hard sell unneeded extras, or charge extortionate fees for pre-existing damages. Browse quotes and check review sites before booking with the “cheapest” broker! As the Which? Recommended Car Hire Broker, we pride ourselves on having no hidden fees and only working with trustworthy providers.
Cut out unneeded extra or upgrades
Cut out any unneeded extras such as a Sat Nav that can be replaced with a more cost efficient offline mobile app such as Google Maps or Waze! If you’re looking to save further, we recommend filtering car rental quotes to find more economical cars that would be cheaper to rent and run!
Rent a car with Zest
Renting a car with Zest can make booking in advance easy! With our Book Now & Pay Later policy you can secure your car rental without paying the full cost upfront. When booking with us, you can also cancel and claim a full refund up to 48 hours before the rental begins!
You’re in safe hands when you book your 2023 car rental with Zest.
