Goreme National Park and Rock Sites of Cappadocia
Goreme National Park has held a place on the UNESCO list since 1985, and deservedly so. It is located in Cappadocia, a historical region of Turkey. Goreme Valley presents stunning but somewhat alien landscapes; great shaped shards of rock in the form of spires, pillars and columns encroach upwards from the ground but are in fact formed entirely as a result of erosion. It is safe to say that they are one of Mother Nature’s most fascinating creations.
The wonderment of this particular World Heritage Site doesn’t stop there though, there are underground towns, 36 in fact, plus churches sculpted into rock faces and other dwellings and villages which date back to the 4th century. Many of the cave churches are beautifully decorated and contain various artwork.
The site is regarded as an open-air museum and is a perfect example of not only earth’s evolution but human kinds too. It really is a fascinating trip that just has to be made during a visit to this area of Turkey.
