The old quarter of the city is built on and around the old Roman town of Barcino. It is filled with many gothic style buildings, making it another must see. The backstreets near to La Seu Cathedral are a joy to explore, particularly with the many arty bars, shops and markets to visit too, interspersed with museums and plazas.
