A Spring break to the southern states of the US is a dream little mid year trip for any avid explorer. Despite what you might think there is a ton happening all over the US during mid-march to late May. From Spring break to end of winter festivals, there is so much happening you really won’t struggle to find ways to enjoy your trip.

Since it’s not peak summer season or the holiday Christmas season though, it can be tricky to know exactly what to expect from your trip. In the summer it’s easy to pack shorts and a T-shirt and during the winter the big coat practically packs itself. During the spring season though, temperatures are a bit milder and not as clear cut on what you’ll need. That’s why we’re here, here’s everything you need to know and pack for your Easter trip to the southern states of the US.

Clothes

None of the southern states get particularly cold during the spring months. Georgia, normally averages out around the high teens in degrees which means if you dress for warm British temps you should be fine. Maybe take a jumper or two for those clear and chilly nights.

Alabama, Florida and Texas are some of the hotter choices as southern states during the Spring. You can expect anything from 23 degrees and up in these states so dressing for much hotter weather is always a good idea. Swim shorts should definitely be on the list if you can find a lovely and hot beach in Florida.

Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee all also sit around the high teens in degrees during spring. So you can expect anything from 16 degrees upwards, dress for a hot British day and you’re about there.

Even though we’re talking about lovely warm weather during spring, it’s worth taking a jumper and a thin rain coat, just in case. Just because it’s warm doesn’t mean it won’t rain!

Essentials

There’s a lot of confusion out there about exactly what’s needed to even be allowed to fly into the US so we wanted to clear that up here, it is essential after all.

Top of the list is an eligibility to even travel to the US under the Visa Waiver Program. This allows you to travel without a visa as long as you’re staying for less than 90 days and also have a valid onward or return ticket. You can use the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) to do this and unless you have a valid Visa, it is more than likely that you’ll need one. Do your own research before travelling, the UK embassy site and the ESTA site itself is super helpful for this.

Travel plug adapters will be needed in the US, as they use a different style plug, you can get these here. Even though USB sockets are becoming more and more popular, some electrical items you may be taking can’t charge via USB.
