Monarch Airlines has announced that they have completely removed debit card fees and introduced a fixed £10.00 credit card fee.

This will come as welcome news to many travellers and will undoubtedly pressure rival airlines to follow in their footsteps. The airline is reportedly in talks in a bid to reduce credit card fees further still.

Monarch also has plans to introduce a new concept next summer referred to as ‘Build Your Own Class’ which will offer fairer air fares and remove hidden charges.

It means that every passenger will be assigned a seat but they will be able to choose if they wish to pay for extra leg room, lounge access and a hot meal. Monarch intend to offer these extras at low prices however, with six inches of extra leg room costing £9.99 on a short haul flight or £24.99 on long haul flights.

Do you think this is a step in the right direction? Will it encourage other airlines to do the same? Let us know your thoughts.
