Most famous for its clubs and summer long party, there’s much more to Ibiza than meets the eye. A gorgeous coastline with tiny blue coves and world famous sunsets are amongst the other highlights on offer here.

To help you make the most of your time here, whether you’ve booked a hire car or not, we’ve put together this handy Ibiza travel guide.

When’s the best time to visit Ibiza?

This really depends on what you’re looking for but the tourist season typically runs from May to October. Want some decent weather and the beaches to yourself? Head there in June, the parties are starting but aren’t overcrowded so this is a great time to visit if you want to experience a little of everything.

If you want to hit the clubs then you’re best off going between July and August.

September sees the party atmosphere (and temperatures) start to cool down. The island is quieter and starts to return to normal whilst October ushers in end of season parties and some rainy days.

Quieter areas

Portinatx in the north, although touristy, is quiet and worth considering. Essentially a mini resort, it had 3 excellent beaches and is popular with both clubbers and non-clubbers. There are great walking trails around this area and some stunning vistas once you get high enough.

Get away from the coast and you’ll find central Ibiza is home to many quiet areas which will offer a fantastic getaway. San Juan is still pretty much untouched by tourism and a popular location with the agritourist crowd. This really is a great place for those looking to escape the lights and noise of touristy Ibiza.

Like San Juan, San Miguel is also relatively unscathed by commercialism. Thousands pass by each summer on their way to more popular and busier resorts and towns without realising what they’re missing. The fortress church overlooks the village and weekly craft market which only sells locally produced items.

Louder

If you’re here for the clubbing or don’t mind the noisier areas, then Ibiza Town, San Antonio, Cala Llonga, and Playa d’en Bossa are all worth investigating.

Which are the best clubs in Ibiza?

Ibiza is home to numerous clubs, from old favourites to newer incarnations.

Pacha

Both the most famous and oldest club is Pacha. From its humble beginnings in 1973, it’s grown into one of the biggest club brands in the world. Located near Ibiza Town Marina.

Space

One of the best places in the world for electronic dance music, Space Ibiza has become the unofficial opening party for Ibiza and is a must visit destination. Located in Playa d’en Bossa.

Es Paradis

Another club from the seventies, Es Paradis is probably best known for its water parties and gardens.  Located in San Antonio.

Ushuaia

Perfect for those who want to sample a taste of the Ibizan nightlife without staying up until 6am! This beach hotel has a different themed party every day, open from 5pm until midnight.

Where are the best beaches?

There are over 80 beaches on Ibiza and the best (or most popular) are to be found in the south west of the island. Having said that, you’ll find wonderful, deserted coves all around the island so if in doubt, ask a local.

Cala Jondal

Always a great place to visit, it’s more relaxed than other beaches and a mere 25 minute drive from Ibiza Town. Activities include snorkelling and pedalo hire.

Ses Salines

Avoid in peak season as parking is a nightmare, even in the pay and display carpark close by. With soft sand and crystal clear water, Ses Salines is a great beach for the whole family. Activities include pedalo hire, sailing, and diving. There are also a wonderful beach bar for daytime visits, El Chiringuito Es Cavallet. There is also a lovely restaurant to frequent once the sun has set, Restaurante la Escollera is just a short jaunt across the beach.

Es Cavallet

One of the island’s official nudist beaches, Es Cavallet caters both to naturists and clothed beach goers. If you are here for the clothing optional section, it can be found at the southern end or in the middle of the beach by the sand dunes. Bar/restaurant El Chiringuito is a great place for a drink or spot of lunch so do make the most of it. Activities include beach volleyball and snorkelling.

Which are the best restaurants?

Restaurante Sa Soca, Sant Josep de Sa Talaia

It might be a little trick to get to but Sa Soca is well worth the trip. Great service and fantastic food are on offer here so go hungry! It’s tricky to recommend any one particular dish as they’re all superb.

Royalty, Santa Eulalia Town, near Santa Eulalia

One of the oldest restaurants in the area, Royalty offers a good menu filled with tapas and local specialties. If you’re just after a coffee, head to their terraza.

Ca Na Ribes, Santa Eulalia

Another in the Santa Eulalia area, Ca Na Ribes is to be found in a beautiful courtyard. Offering excellent local food it’s a must visit restaurant.

El Zaguan, Ibiza Town

If it’s fantastic tapas you’re after, head to El Zaguan. Offering tapas and Basque dishes, it’s a great place for the whole family and ideally located near the Marina.

Explore Ibiza

  • Visit the Punta Arabi market in Es Cana. Held every Wednesday, it’s the biggest market on the island.
  • Head to Cap Blanc to visit the Aquarium. A natural cave with 5 sea water inlets, it’s one of the most unusual aquariums you’re likely to visit.
  • Catch the ferry to Formentera. This lovely island is home to some fantastic beaches and coast walks so plan accordingly.
  • Learn to dive in Ibiza’s warm, crystal clear water. There are a number of dive schools on the island and this is a great place to start training for your PADI qualifications.
