The Balearics are synonymous with lively nights out and clubbing but there is so much more to discover. Avoid the summer rush of party goers and uncover what these islands really have to offer with a winter break. Read our guide to Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca and uncover a different side.

Mallorca

During October or November, why not visit Majorca? This beautiful area is home to over 2,400 restaurants which are just longing to be filled with people. There’s something for everyone, ranging from bars to large restaurants where you can sample the local cuisine.

The weather is so wondrous all year round that many artists, academics, and celebrities have moved to the area. With large numbers of beaches such as those at Cala Bona and Calas de Mallorca, warm weather and the high-quality tourist conveniences it’s worth spending some time to find out why they’ve moved here.

During your stay, why not take a tour around the Coves del Drac, which is located in the village of Porto Cristo. Pulling in holidaymakers from all over the world, they’re home to strange stalactite formations. The whole tour can be rounded off with a violin concert on Lake Martel. Top off your visit with a boat ride, guided by a gondolier.

If beautiful scenery is what you look for on a relaxing holiday, Cap de Formentor offers the most spectacular views. Amble along to the lighthouse which has stood since 1892 and is made from the surrounding cliffs.

With the gothic architecture you can simply wander around the town and gaze at your surroundings. Why not dine alfresco and enjoy the area to its full potential? Don’t waste a minute of your time here in the beautiful Balearics, there is so much more to Majorca than the stereotype.

Ibiza

Ibiza is often overlooked as a result of the stereotype that surrounds it. Take a trip here in the cooler months of the year and appreciate what this lovely islands has to offer.

The villages are simply beautiful. With ancient churches and quaint white-washed houses, you’ll find something for everyone in the pretty little streets of Ibiza. Take a stroll along to one of the famous hippy markets, the largest of which are at Es Caná and San Carlos. They’ve got everything you could think of from silver jewellery to custom made moccasins.

If you’ve exhausted the boutiques and local markets, why not head to the Las Salinas Salt Flats in your hire car. They’re a natural wonder that have been in use for over 2000 years. When the water evaporates in the hot summer months it leaves behind a beautiful layer of pure salt, which is a perfect backdrop for a romantic stroll. There are also some stunning beach bars and restaurants dotted around this area, so make time for a pit stop.

If you want to do something a bit special, why not hire a yacht (or a more wallet-friendly motor boat). You can hire for a day, or even a week if you want to explore the shores of Ibiza. Of course, you can always give in to temptation and head to a bar or club, if you feel like letting your hair down and enjoying the night just as much as the day. Ibiza Town offers a great mixture of the old and the new. Grab a bite to eat and a relaxed drink around Dalt Vila, then dance the night away at Marina Botafoch.

Menorca

Often overlooked, Menorca is home to some fabulous sights. The city of Mahon is a real gem and a particular highlight is Freginal Park. Wander through this large expanse of greenery and enjoy a mixture of vibrant displays of flowers, along with a variety of cultural events.

Travel close to Ciutadella and visit the S’Hostal Quarries. This was once a sandstone quarry and closed in 1994. Many plans are in place to further develop the area into a tourist attraction, but this does still make for an interesting day out.

If you are looking for things to keep the children amused, AquaRock has a huge variety of activities on offer. Traverse to Son Bou and head towards Club San Jaime, this fun-filled water and play park perfect for a family day out.

It’s fair to say that the Balearics offer it all. Visiting outside of peak season, should help you to avoid the hustle and bustle and view the quieter side of the islands.
