Travel to the south of the island and you will find the main resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. Playa de las Americas is regarded as the place to party on the island with many vibrant restaurants, bars and clubs offering fun-filled nights that stretch into the early hours. There are also several small sandy beaches with calm waters acting as a haven for kids, couples and groups of friends alike.
Get moving with some activites
If you fancy something active, get a game of volleyball going and pick up a refreshment at one of the kiosks. You can even get a massage right there on the sand. If you tire of sand side activities, there are plenty of water sports activities available. There is also a selection of boat trips including dolphin and whale watching or submarine safaris.
Quieter side of Tenerife
The resort of Los Gigantes is found a bit further north, around 30km from Los Cristianos. This is much quieter and more relaxed in comparison. It offers the perfect retreat for older couples or families. From here you can embark on a boat trip to view one of Tenerife’s most stunning natural attractions; Los Gigantes themselves, the ‘Cliffs of the Giants’. These huge sheer cliffs appear out of the ocean and ascend to heights of over 600 metres into the sky. The best way to see them is undoubtedly from the ocean. You’ll still have to crane your neck quite significantly to see the top of the cliffs.
The remaining portions of north of the island are lush and green and a world away from the tourist traps of the south. Here you can truly appreciate the natural beauty, soak up the local culture and enjoy traditional food.
Mount Teide
Mount Teide engulfs the majority of the island and the 12,198ft peak in the centre of the Teide National Park rises triumphantly from the ocean floor. No visit to the island is complete without getting in the cable car that takes you almost to the summit at 11,663ft. The journey to the park via hairpin bends, past impressive lava flows is exciting enough in itself. The views from the top are unsurpassable. You’ll feel like you are on top of the world! This is genuinely unmissable. The surrounding areas present excellent walking and hiking opportunities too if you fancy exploring further.
Tenerife’s capital
The bustling capital of the island, Santa Cruz is towards the north of the island. The cities harbour is one of the largest and most historically important in the Atlantic Ocean. The remainder of the city provides fantastic shopping, interesting architecture and plenty of acclaimed restaurants. There are plenty of sites to see around this cosmopolitan and popular city.
