Majorca is a very popular tourist destination. This means that at times it feels like there are no unexplored or quiet places left to visit. That’s not actually the case. There are still a plethora of wonderful places just waiting to be explored that off the beaten track in this magical Mediterranean island.

Try the north of Majorca

Majorca is an ideal holiday spot given its relatively small size. Within an hour of arriving at Palma Airport you can be beating the crowds and exploring some delightful destinations. With its gorgeous blue skies and amazing Serra de Tramuntana mountains there is much to be explored and enjoyed. The Southern busy coastal hotels seem to be a lifetime away from the remote areas of the North. Here, it’s possible to stay in a 13th century location and take in some of the grandeur and beauty that is on offer.

A great stop off point

On your way to the north of the island make sure you stop at Inca. Pick up a wide variety of shoes, handbags and other leather goods that are offered at good prices. Visit some of the outlet shops on the outskirts without all the usual tourist crowds. Sample some delicious wine from the cellars available in many restaurants. Once you’ve finished your wine, rest assured it is not the wine going to your head, there really are donkeys roaming around here free as a bird.

Visit Pollença

If you fancy heading off somewhere else then consider the medieval town of Pollença. Pollença is set between two hills and it is quaint and tiny enough to be visited in half a day. On Sundays you will find market stalls and locals here meeting after their morning visit to church. Another delightful location here is the nearby town of Port de Pollença which was originally a fishing village. It has wonderful sandy, clean beaches, a bay to explore and has a relaxed vibe to it.

The capital is in fact a hidden gem

The capital of Palma is quite a little gem. This is probably quite surprising to most people who are expecting to see it packed full of tourists and holiday souvenirs. Sample delightful tree lined avenues that are full of vibrancy. There are lots of designer boutiques in Palma so you can get your shopping fill while avoiding some of the crowds in other parts of Majorca.

The best location in Palma has to be the Cathedral here. The waterfront is beautiful and is a fantastic place to visit, particularly during the warmer months of the year. You can find some lovely hotels here with swimming pools and full meal packages so there is no reason not to stay at Palma. Obviously you will find tourists in your hotel but there are lots of little areas just waiting to be explored outside of Palma too.

Explore with a hire car

The best thing you can do if you are trying to save money is consider staying in one of the more popular tourist haunts and then hiring a car for one or even a few days to allow you to explore some of the beautiful areas that Majorca has to offer.
