Which? have published a review on their survey of the best car hire companies and brokers for 2014. As you may be aware Economy Car Hire came out as the best car hire broker in the 2013 Which? survey and we are delighted to announce that in this year’s review we have retained the top position as best car hire broker.
In November 2013 Which? asked its users to complete an online survey about their experiences in the last 12 months when dealing with a car hire company or broker. The results that have been published are based on the feedback given of 2246 user experiences. Participants were asked to review various aspects of hiring a car including ease of booking online, clarity of information, the range of cars offered, and customer service.
It was suggested that the most common problems that most customers experience when booking car hire are the hidden costs involved. Which? highlighted five major issues including damage charges; unauthorised payments; fuel options; automatic toll payments and excess waiver fees. As a result of this ‘clarity of the pricing’ was given its own rating for each company. We are exceptionally pleased that we are the only car hire broker to have achieved the maximum five stars in this field.
Retaining our place as the top car hire broker is something we are very proud of, however, we are always looking to find new ways to improve the service we provide. As a result of the constant feedback we receive from customers we have recently changed how we display the supplier you are booking with. Therefore, we have cleared up any potential confusion that could have occurred at this stage and also improved the overall clarity of our booking process.

I would like to draw your attention to a misunderstanding/rip off I have recently experienced when I booked a car through you with Centauro. On arrival at Murcia airport I went as normal to the Centauro desk where I filled in the relevant paperwork I was asked whether I would like extra insurance but declined. I was asked to hand over my credit card which I did and the transaction went through with no problems. The young lady asked me to sign the paperwork which again I did and I left please with the car that they had allocated to me. It wasn’t until I arrived at our destination and settled in that I looked at the paperwork that I realized that she had charged me the 96 euros for the extra insurance. Needless to say I was no too pleased as I distinctly said I did not require the extra insurance. I have used Economy Car hire for a number of years and I normally request a car from Centauro and until this last trip I have had nothing but good service, however, I feel that I was ripped off on this occasion by the car company. I accept that I was at fault for not checking the transaction at the company desk, however I made it clear to the young lady that the insurance was not required especially as I was already having to forked out 99 Euros for a full tank of petrol and that the normal cover insurance was sufficient. I am very disappointed with the company concerned as I feel that they were taking advantage of a tired traveller anxious to get to his destination. If I had spotted the con I have no doubt that she would have said she misunderstood me although her English was as good as mine. I will have second thoughts about going with Centauro again and will definitely check my transactions before departing the company desk. Signed a disgruntled customer.
Dear Mr Mikolajewski,
Firstly, I would like to apologise for the time that it has taken to reply to your feedback. I have passed this onto the Customer Relations Department who will be in touch regarding this matter.
From the Economy Car Hire Team
Great news. Now I can tell our readers that it isn’t just me that thinks Economy Car Hire are the best choice when it comes to booking car hire in Spain.
We have used Economy Car Hire for many years, and have once again booked a car from you again this summer when we visit Cyprus again. Always efficient, and so easy to book online.Never had a problem at all.W hope we can continue to book with you in the future, problem seems to be “advancing years!” with lots of car hire companies. This year, only one company to book with, as all other seem to have a maximum age of 70 or 71 yrs. Tough for us.Let us hope Oasis Car hire continue to hire cars for us.
Congratulations to Rory, Pam and all his team. A good job!
