You’re about to embark on a break abroad and you’ve organised everything down to the letter, but have you taken out Top-Up Insurance on your car hire booking? This covers the otherwise uninsured parts of the vehicle, such as the tyres, glass parts, keys and undercarriage of the car.

If you have already opted to take out Top-Up Insurance, follow these simple steps to make sure that you get the best from your holiday.

  1. Remember, the Top-Up Insurance is a refundable policy. Should loss or damage occur to the tyres, glass parts, keys or undercarriage of the car, you will be required to pay for the damage at the time and then claim for the costs upon your return home.
  2. If you have taken out our Top-Up Insurance, you don’t need to take it out locally too. You are within your rights to refuse any others.
  3. The local car hire supplier will always take a security deposit from the main driver’s credit card upon collection of the car as a precaution.
  4. Top-Up Insurance is primarily for the parts of the vehicle which are not covered under Full Collision Damage Waiver, which is included in the standard rental rate.
  5. Contact the local car hire company to report any damage to the vehicle as soon as it occurs. This will allow the correct paperwork to be arranged should you need it.
  6. Keep the invoice or receipt for the cost of the damage. You will need this to make a claim.
