If you’ve never collected a hire car at Faro Airport before, the first time can be a little confusing. (If you have, why not check out our previous posts on exploring Portugal?) The process is easy enough but you need to double check where you have to go to collect your car. Some suppliers are based in Car Park 4, others have desks in the airport, and others are in the car rental village, whilst a few are based off site.
Arriving at Faro: Where do I need to go?
If you’ve hired a car at Faro through us, the collection information is displayed on your booking voucher which will guide you to one of the following:
- “Proceed to CAR PARK 4 by following signs for “P4”.
- “Proceed to the [supplier] desk in the arrivals hall.”
- “On arrival at Faro Airport clients will be met by a [supplier] representative. Clients will then be taken, by shuttle bus, to the [supplier] depot.”
- “Proceed to the Information Desk situated in the Airport Arrivals Hall, here you will be met by a [supplier] representative and will be taken by shuttle bus, to the supplier’s depot.”
- “Proceed to the ‘Meeting Point’ where they will be met by a [supplier] representative. Clients will then be taken, by shuttle bus, to the [supplier] depot.”
Where are the car hire desks at Faro Airport?
Once you’ve collected your baggage, head into the arrivals hall and you’ll see the desks opposite you at the front of the airport building. When you’ve completed the paperwork, you’ll receive further instructions from the representative.
You will either be guided to the car park or given directions depending on how busy the desk is.
Where is Car Park 4 at Faro Airport?
Car Park 4 is easy enough to find as it’s clearly signposted once you proceed to the arrivals hall from baggage reclaim. The signs you’ll be following are “P4”.

- Head outside via the main doors, turn left and walk towards the Departures end of the concourse.
- Pass the Departures entrance, cross the road outside the terminal building, and follow the signs to Car Park 4 via the covered walkway.

- Head to the rental car office under the P4 sign where you’ll be met by a representative.

It may sound like a long trek but it’s an easy 250m walk and Car Park 4 is close to the exit for the roads to the A22 once you’ve collected your vehicle.
I’m being met, where do I go?
If you are to be met by a representative, this normally occurs as you enter the arrivals hall. A representative will be standing somewhere obvious with a sign. This will either be the suppliers name or yours. If you can’t see them immediately, head to the Information Desk.
The Information Desk can be found on the left hand side of the arrivals hall near the Bureau du Change. If you get really lost or have any concerns, the Faro Airport Information team can be contacted on +351 289 800 617.
The Meeting Point is separate to the Information Desk and clearly signposted in the arrivals hall.
Returning a rental car at Faro Airport
When it comes to returning your car at the end of your holiday, if you collected your vehicle at Car Park 4, you simply need to return it there. As you enter the airport, Car Park 4 is on the left after the petrol station and main roundabout.

In some cases you may be instructed to return the vehicle to a separate car park. If you’ve booked through Hertz for example, they have their own car park in the rental village. Simply follow the signs to the correct car park.
Now we’ve run you through the process of collecting a hire car at Faro Airport (and returning), we have a couple of other pointers for you to help everything go smoothly:
- Don’t forget to fill up your car before you return it! There is a petrol station by Car Park 4 as you enter the airport should you need to top up. Take a photo of the fuel gauge when you return the car.
- Remember to return the vehicle in plenty of time in case the representative wants to check the car thoroughly before signing it back in. You don’t want to miss your flight!
