Ash from the Grimsvötn volcano is expected to arrive in UK airspace by Tuesday 24th May.
Eurocontrol, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation has advised that flights should not be affected on Monday 23rd May. There is however a risk that some ash clouds may reach parts of Northern Europe, including Scotland within the next 48 hours. Subsequently, southern England could be affected by Thursday or Friday.

Following the delays and cancellations caused in 2010 by the Eyjafjallajokull eruption, new safety rules have been introduced, which should minimise any disruptions. Airlines are now permitted to fly through ash plumes if they can demonstrate that their aircrafts can fly safely through medium and high densities of ash. Most major airlines would be able to fly through medium density ash clouds.

The situation is being monitored by Airports and Eurocontrol and we will inform you of any updates to this situation.
