The United States of America is a vast and beautiful country. From the red rocks of Arizona to the crystal clear waters of Florida, the USA has a remarkable amount of stunning scenery. In this post we’ll be taking a look at just a few of the country’s scenic drives. It’s impossible to choose favourites when there are so many on offer. We’ll try and avoid using the word best!

Alaska

Alaska has an almost endless supply of breath-taking scenery. The ‘Seward Highway’ certainly takes the prize when it comes to a must-see road trip route. Alaska’s 127-mile long highway joins Seward and Anchorage on the Kenai Peninsula. It boasts gorgeous views such as the Chugach National Forest and the Kenai Mountains, well-known for its glacier covered surface.

California

California is home to iconic Yosemite Valley. There is another drive that is a lot less crowded and yet equally as stunning. ‘Kings Canyon’ byway is 50 miles long and passes packs of giant sequoias, gushing waterfalls and the beautiful (and somewhat eerie) Boyden Cavern. Without a doubt, it’s the grand ‘Granite Canyon’ that you’ll never forget.

Nebraska

Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway is 272miles long and runs between Alliance and Grand Island. It traverses what is the largest grass covered formation of sand dunes in the world. A popular section of the stretch begins in ‘Broken Bow’, where you can opt to stay in the historical ‘Arrow Hotel’ and take a memorable dip in the shallow ‘Middle Loup River’. ‘Morgan’s Cowpoke Haven’ in Ellsworth, a great cowboy store, is also definitely worth a visit when passing by, even if you don’t have plans to do any cattle ranching!

Massachusetts

Henry David Thoreau commented on Massachusetts’ Outer Beach on Cape Cod “A man may stay there and put all America behind him” and this certainly remains true to the present day. Its 65 mile long peninsula offers breath-taking views along its stretch. Driving to its ‘tip’ gives memorable views of the constantly changing Atlantic Ocean along with its beaches and incredible atmosphere. Over 43,000 acres and completely protected by federal law as the ‘Cape Cod National Seashore’ park area. Rest assured, the stretch’s natural beauty is there to be enjoyed today exactly as it was for Henry David Thoreau.

America is packed with beautiful scenery, amazing roads, and breath-taking natural wonders. Taking some time out to enjoy this country’s aesthetic beauty is sure to create memories you will never forget.
