Draped in history with fascinating sights and important landmarks countrywide, it is not a place that can be easily ticked off your list. The best bits are scattered across the country. We feel that a road trip around Ireland is the best way to uncover its very best offerings. Unfortunately, we can’t list all of the worthy sights, but here’s a selection of some the most popular places to visit.

Delve into Dublin

As the place most likely to be your gateway into Ireland, Dublin naturally tops the list. Start off by sampling a Guinness at the Guinness Storehouse. Head to the the famous Temple Bar and discover Dublin’s history with a trip to the castle. Jump feet first into the festival culture and shop your heart out at the Loft Markets amongst plenty more. Once you’ve had your fill on this petite but enticing city, pick up a hire car from Dublin Airport and embark on a road trip around Ireland.

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

The towering Cliffs of Moher create a stunning view whatever the weather. Heart lifting in the summer and wonderfully moody in the winter. Found on the west coast, you can also explore the enchanting city of Galway just a short distance away once you’ve had your fill.

Follow in the steps of giants at The Giant’s Causeway

Created as a result of a huge volcanic eruption, the iconic sight of thousands of hexagonal stones tumbling towards the sea is one of Ireland’s most visited attractions. Tackle the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and see the ruins of Dunluce Castle nearby too.

Road trip around Ireland – the Ring of Kerry

A truly stunning area of Ireland is to be found in the Ring of Kerry. The route both starts and ends in Killarney and comprises 170km of fantastic scenery around the Iveragh Peninsula. Along the way you will uncover countless attractions such as the Gap of Dunloe and Ross Castle to name but a few, as well as wild beaches, quaint towns and villages and scenic views.

Bunratty castle in Co. Clare, Ireland

Enjoy an authentic medieval experience at Bunratty Castle

Found in County Clare, Bunratty Castle is said to be the most complete medieval fortress in the country. In addition to the castle, you can visit the beautiful walled garden, folk park and reserve a place at one of the medieval banquets which are held year round to enjoy a night of Irish song and dance, not to mention divine food and wine.

Lap up the views of the Lakes of Killarney

Within Killarney National Park you will find the Lakes of Killarney, another popular stopping point. The three lakes Lough Leane, Muckross Lake and Upper Lake boast great fishing and wonderful views. Embark on a leisurely lake cruise and experience them from the water.

Kiss the Blarney Stone

No road trip around Ireland would ever be complete without kissing the famous Blarney Stone. Found at Blarney Castle, you will need to bend over backwards to complete the task and follow the example of thousands all hoping to be blessed with the gift of eloquence.

Dip your toes into Dingle

Exuding Irish charm, the town of Dingle and the beauty of the surrounding Dingle peninsular is a sure fire winner. The town with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants sits on a deep, natural harbour at the foot of Slievanea Mountain rendering it quite picturesque. Found on the west coast, the coastline bears the brunt of the argumentative Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to take to the boat trip to meet the local dolphin, Fungi; if you don’t see him, you’ll get your money back!
