Have you ever been on holiday in Barcelona? One of our Customer Advisors, Vicki, recently visited and shares her experience of a holiday in Barcelona.

With my birthday fast approaching, me and my partner decided to book a last minute package deal to visit Barcelona for a couple of days. It had been widely recommended and I have always wanted to visit there.

Planning a holiday in Barcelona

We booked a very cheap deal with both the flights and a double hotel room which turned out to be an entire apartment in Barcelona costing just £150.00 per person. The hotel was lovely but it was a bit of a trek from the centre. It was good to explore the city on foot. At the time, I was a bit obsessed with photography. The city’s architecture blew me away; it is truly a stunning city.

First stop …

One of the first things we did upon arrival was visit Barcelona Cathedral. There was a small fee to enter however the gothic structure and architecture was beautiful. There was even a small gaggle of geese which take up residence in the centre of the cathedral; well worth a visit.

Ramble along Las Ramblas

We spent a great deal of time at Las Ramblas which is a street composed of market stalls, souvenir shops, restaurants and bars with some fantastic street entertainers. Just wandering from each stand to the next you are able to find some great authentic gifts and souvenirs. The entertainers put on a great show; some are a little creepy but well worth a visit. The bars and restaurants offer a great variety of food and some have good deals especially on drinks and paella which I would suggest you try.

Peruse the shops

Barcelona has some great shops which you can easily spend more than a whole day perusing. You can also find the more familiar shops, although thanks to the Euro, you can sometimes get a better deal back here in the UK. To avoid any more grumbling from Greg, we decided to visit Barcelona Aquarium. They had a vast variety of fish, sharks and even penguins! I would advise you to go early though as by midday it was crowded with people on school trips which made getting to the next bit slightly tricky.

Visit the Hard Rock Café

Visit the Hard Rock Café in the city centre. Although they are an international franchise it is really an experience dining in there. With music memorabilia decorating the entire restaurant and a Cadillac car balanced on top of the bar! You will not have enough eyes to take it all in at once! The food was amazing and there was even Sid Vicious’ famous safety pin top that he wore on stage with the Sex Pistols. There is also a gift shop where you can purchase all sorts of Hard Rock Café merchandise.

We were only there for three days and we are already planning our next trip back as there was still so much we wanted to see and do! Three days were simply not enough!
