It’s that time again; gloomy January is here and Christmas is long gone. Sadly it’s time to start following that New Year’s Resolution you merrily and perhaps over optimistically set for yourself. It’s not easy though; changing bad habits is vehemently tricky! A change of scenery could be just what you need to get you motivated though. So why not beat the January blues and your resolution in one fell swoop? Here are 5 New Year’s resolutions inspired holidays to take in 2014.
If you want to eat healthily
Go to: Italy, Spain, Japan
Trying to eat healthily is a trending topic of recent years. The continual barrage of slim line celebrities from the media can curb our enthusiasm rather than incite it though. If you’ve set yourself the goal to eat more healthily throughout 2014 however, remain positive; it can be done! Get your year off to a great start and fight that festive weight gain by venturing to the likes of Italy. With pizza and pasta at every turn you might think we’re crazy but you’d be wrong; there’s more to Italian food than carbs and gluttony. Come here to celebrate wonderful, fresh ingredients prepared with love and care, seafood fresh from the ocean to your plate and exciting new flavours. Spain and Japan are both great destinations for delicious, healthy food too! You may need to apply strict self-control but if you can achieve that in Italy, you can achieve it anywhere and it will make sticking to your resolution for the rest of the year all the easier.
If you want to quit smoking
Go to: Singapore
You’ve vowed to stop bowing to the nicotine queen. This is the first step of the rest of your life; well done! Now though, it’s time to stick to it. Obviously, there isn’t a secret destination for new ex-smokers to travel to. The approach you need to take is to choose a destination where you won’t have the time to miss smoking! Stimulate your other senses so that you won’t have time for even the mere thought of a cigarette to infiltrate your brain. So what destination should you choose? The options really are endless but a bustling city, with plenty of cultural sights and attractions is a good shout. Singapore more than fits the bill, and, their smoking ban is more widely enforced than any other country. If you are caught smoking somewhere you shouldn’t, you can be fined up to S$200! Enjoy delicious Asian cuisine, visit the Singapore Zoo & Night Safari, relax in the Botanic Gardens and explore Little India and Chinatown. The Gardens by the Bay will put you in mind of the film Avatar while Marina Bay Sands will remind you of Las Vegas!
If you want to do more exercise
Go to: The Dolomites, the Pyrenees or the Swiss Alps
Forget anywhere hot if you plan on doing more exercise; we all know that the hot sunshine is lovely, but it can be very demotivating! So, what better holiday to embark upon than a winter sports holiday? The clue is in the title! You get to be sporty and by going on holiday in winter, you certainly can’t complain about it being too hot! Both skiing and snowboarding will take it out of you; on the slopes for multiple hours every day, using muscles you never even knew you had! Pretty much anywhere in Europe with a mountain is a suitable destination… the Dolomites in Italy, the Pyrenees in France and the Swiss Alps should inspire you just for starters. The choices are endless though; perhaps go somewhere less mainstream such as Bulgaria. Outside of ski season, why not spend a break walking, hiking or mountain biking in the mountains? Come summer, continue your ode to exercise by going somewhere a bit more exotic and spend your days kayaking and swimming!
If you want to be more adventurous
Go to: New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, USA
Life is easy when it’s safe, normal and firmly inside your comfort zone. This can lead to boredom for some individuals though! If you have vowed to be more adventurous in 2014, you can succeed simply by changing a few things in your everyday life. To really kick things off in style though, you need to visit to one of the world’s adventure capitals. What destinations could be better than the likes of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or the USA? From shark cage diving to glacier hikes, bungee jumps to sky dives and horse riding across national parks to animal encounters on safari. These destinations offer more adventure than you can shake a stick at so get planning for the trip (and year) of a life time!
If you want to find more time for yourself
Go to: The Maldives, French Polynesia, Seychelles

It can leave you feeling frazzled so I wouldn’t be surprised if you hope to find more time for yourself in the coming year. Set aside some time to truly spoil yourself on the most luxurious trip of your life! Where better to do this, I hear you ask? Well, there’s no better destination than the Maldives, although French Polynesia and the Seychelles follow very close behind!
