If you are planning a skiing holiday, rather than head to the usual destinations why not branch out and visit somewhere new! With mountains to be found in countries around the world, there is skiing available in a number of exotic locations. Take a look at these exotic ski areas!

The fact that there is a range of ski areas in Spain is relatively well known which therefore makes it an ideal exotic option. The Pyrenees as well as the Sierra Nevada offer, in regards to levels and comfort, everything that a skier desires at over 30 different resorts. As such, the Spanish ski areas demonstrate a very viable alternative to ski areas in France, Austria or Italy. Enjoy excellent facilities for both skiers and snowboarders, challenging well groomed pistes and great extra activities for families and party goers.

Did you know that you can also ski in Portugal? Whilst a trip to Portugal just for skiing is not really worth it due to its insufficient size, passionate skiers could combine their holiday in Portugal with a short side trip into the ski area to spice up it up a little bit.

The only ski area in Portugal lies approx. 100 km eastwards from Coimbra in the Sierra da Estrela, a part of the so called Iberian sistema central mountain range. The highest peak is the mountain Torre (1,993 m), which is also the centre of the ski operation. A total of 4 ski lifts and 9 pistes with a length of approx. 8 km are located on the runs, in various levels of difficulties. The cost of a daily lift pass in the high season is €25, whereby the weekends are mostly counted as high season. On weekdays the price is reduced to €15. Skis, snowboard equipment, snow tubes, sleighs and snow shoes can be hired in resort. A snow park is also available and a children’s land for the little ones. The attraction of the Sierra da Estrela doesn’t stop there though; you can also enjoy cures, hiking, climbing, riding a mountain bike or paragliding.

This is just a taste of some exotic skiing areas you can choose from but there are plenty more options from Australia to Israel.
