5. Walking in a Winter Wonderland
We know that “Wonderland” isn’t technically a place but no one can shake the idea that snow creates the perfect Christmas atmosphere! Whenever we hear this song, we can’t help but think of snowy landscapes like those in Lapland, the French Alps or Canada so it still gets us dreaming of travel!
4. Christmas in New Orleans
Arguably one of the most influential Jazz musicians of the 20th century and unarguably one of the best known, Christmas in New Orleans by Louis Armstrong just had to be included!
3. I’ll Be Home for Christmas
Released back in 1943 and performed by Bing Crosby, this song was written from the viewpoint of a soldier, stationed abroad during the midst of World War II but has since become a staple song during the festive period. It has since been recorded by hundreds of different artists from the Beach Boys to Whitney Houston!
2. Dominick the Donkey
If you’ve heard of this song it’s probably with thanks to Radio 1, when it was played religiously every morning on the Chris Moyle’s Breakfast Show in the lead up to Christmas. Many people don’t know however that the song was originally recorded in 1960 by Lou Monte. Hailing from Italy, Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey just couldn’t escape the list!
1. Driving Home for Christmas
The old classic ‘Driving Home for Christmas’ has to top the list! Released in 1988, it only reached number 53 in the singles chart but has grown to become one of the most loved Christmas songs ever since!
