The Foreign Office has released a warning for holidaymakers in the Canary Islands amid forest fires which are currently burning on the islands of La Gomera and Tenerife.
On La Gomera, fires are currently affecting the areas around Las Hayas, El Contadero, El Cruce de las Hayas, Los Manantiales, Chipude, Arure, Banda Las Rosas, Valle Gran rey and El Cercado whilst there are also reports of fires around El Tanque, Ruigomez, San Jose de los Llanos, El Palmar, Teno Alto, Lagunetas, Valle de Arriba, Erjos, Masca and Las Portelas on Tenerife.
At present, around 200 hectares of land has been destroyed on Tenerife and parts of Garajonay National Park on La Gomera have been destroyed.
The FCO has warned that some roads have been closed and a number of local residents have been evacuated, although flights to both La Gomera and Tenerife are unaffected at present.
