Puerto Pollensa sits at the crown of the island. The hour drive between Palma Airport and the gorgeous sandy bay is no deterrent for the many people that part ways with their pennies for a holiday here. In a different world to the resorts in the south of the island, to the north, you will find dramatic mountains, tiny hilltop villages and a spattering of peaceful sandy coves. It is vastly considered the most magical of all Majorca’s resorts.

The appeal starts in the very basic of your holiday needs, the accommodation options. Low-cost apartments and villas are abundant but then so are luxury versions. For those not so keen on self-catering, the choice of hotels is dizzying. There is an option for every budget and taste. If you would like to be right in the thick of things and those who prefer somewhere a little farther out of the action. The only option you won’t find is campsites, but the alternatives more than make up for it.
Explore Puerto Pollensa
The stunning golden bay of Puerto Pollensa itself, aptly named Pollensa Beach, is fantastic. Particularly with the backdrop of the stunning Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains. As the main beach, it is long, wide and wonderful and stretches from the marina to the very end of the resort. It’s perfect for the whole family to relax on without being overcrowded. A cool drink from one of the beach bars is never far away. The warm waters of the Mediterranean can be accessed from several other coves and beaches dotted nearby. Formentor Beach on the very tip of the island is often secluded so you can enjoy your own little slice of heaven without interruption. Cala Murta and Cala Figuera are easily reached and don’t compromise on the fantastic beauty that Mallorcan beaches are renowned for.
Beyond the beach
Whilst the beaches are excellent, break up your time in the sun with some other activities. Start off with a visit to the marina. Take a walk around this bustling hive of activity. Another highlight is a visit to the Puerto Pollensa market hosted in the Central Square every Wednesday morning. A walk around in the morning sun will easily convince you of an early lunch in the welcoming shade of one of the bars and restaurants here.
Head to Cala San Vicente
If you fancy a change of scenery, take a detour to the nearby resort of Cala San Vicente. The snorkelling is particularly fantastic due to the surrounding coves. A little further afield, Parc Natural de s’Albufera de Mallorca is the ideal place to get lost in the natural beauty of the island and explore on foot. Other ways to get around such as on horseback are not permitted but for good reason, as it means that the beauty of the park is preserved.
All in all, a holiday in Puerto Pollensa offers a little something for everything and if you are looking for a relaxed beach break destination with stunning scenery, this could have your name on it.
