The EuroAirport serves Basel in Switzerland, Mulhouse in France, and Freiburg in Germany. Although it sits on French land, the airport is very close to the Swiss border. It was built after the second world war when Switzerland wanted to expand the airport in Basel. With a lack of space, they started negotiations with the French for land. In return for the land EuroAirport sits on, Switzerland paid for construction. It is one of the few airports in the world which is operated jointly by two countries.

A state treaty is in place which allows the two countries, Switzerland and France, access to the airport without any customs or border restrictions.

MLH is the IATA code for the French side of the airport, BSL is for the Swiss side, and EAP is the neutral code.

There is only one terminal building at EuroAirport, but after you’ve collected your luggage, you can enter the Swiss side or the French side, depending on your plans.

The terminal is split into four levels; parking is on the lowest level, with arrivals on Level 2, check-in on Level 3 and departures on Level 4.

Whether you’ll be holidaying in France or Switzerland will decide on whether you book to hire a car from Mulhouse Airport or Basel Airport.

The car hire providers at Mulhouse Airport we currently work with are Europcar, Keddy and Thrifty. On the French side of EuroAirport. We work with Dollar, Thrifty, Europcar and Alamo at Basel Airport, the Swiss side of EuroAirport.

All car rental providers are easy to find in the terminal building. They are located at the far ends of the hall for the country you want to exit into. From arrivals, head into either the Swiss or the French side. The car rental desks line the building and are easy to locate. You can view a terminal map here.

Cars are kept in the airport car park, on the respective side for the country you are travelling to.

Returning the hire car to EuroAirport
