Summer is just around the corner and so too, are the incredible music festivals. Whatever your taste in music, there’s bound to be a music festival to suit you. Combine it with a trip abroad for an unforgettable experience. Relax on a beach or check out local museums during the day then dance to your favourite artists in the evening. We run down through the top music festivals below. Unfortunately, some of the dates clash, so you won’t be able to complete the whole festival circuit.

Sea Dance Festival

Where? Budva, Montenegro.
When? 13th-15th July 2017.
Cost: From £42.90 including booking fee.

Hosted on Jaz Beach, one of the best beaches in Europe, this festival lines up world class DJs. Let the beats move your body against the backdrop of the Adriatic’s azure blue waters. This year, experience the talents of John Newman, Fatboy Slim, Sean Paul and many more.

Latitude Festival

Where? Henham Park Estate, Suffolk, UK.
When? 13th-16th July 2017.
Cost: From £77.50 for a day entry. Weekend tickets available from £197.50 including camping.

Known for its cultural flair, this variety festival offers family-friendly options, with something for everyone. Various stages and arenas become a hive of activity including comedy acts, theatrical performances, ballet, and even cabaret alongside your typical musical sets. See the likes of Goldfrapp, Mystery Jets, Mumford and Sons, and The 1975 this year.

Festival Internacional de Benicàssim (FIB)

Where? Benicàssim, Spain.
When? 13th-16th July.
Cost: 4-day ticket costs €149 including camping.

Unusually for a music festival, this one bucks the trend and ignores the muddy field approach by being hosted in a car park. Enjoy pop, rock and electronica music interspersed with short films, art installations and fashion shows. There is some camping available but be prepared to get cosy with other campers. This year, top up your tan near the beach while the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Weeknd, Kasabian, and Deadmau5 among others take to the stage.

Sziget Festival

Where? Freedom Island, Budapest, Hungary.
When? 9th-16th August.
Cost: €299 for the weekend or €65 per day.

This festival is seen as the European equivalent to the Burning Man by many. The event focuses on art, culture and celebration for 7 days of incredible music. It has a huge reputation and shouldn’t be sniffed at. The location itself sits in the Danube and so becomes a complete self-contained festival. Weekend tickets include basic camping on the island. P!nk, The Chainsmokers, Kasabian, Rita Ora, and Tom Odell will be hitting the island this year.

Green Man Festival

Where? Glanusk Park, Powys, Wales.
When? 17th-20th August 2017.
Cost: From £180 for weekend entry. Day entry tickets from £60.

What started as a small, modest folk festival in the beautiful Brecon Beacons is now a much-loved not-to-be-missed annual event for many. The park provides an incredible backdrop for you to experience great local ales, alternative acts, and the ceremonial burning of the Green Man himself. Ryan Adams, Michael Kiwanuka, and Kate Tempest will be taking to the stage.

Burning Man Festival

Where? Nevada, USA.
When? 27th August-4th September 2017.
Cost: Starting at $425.

It’s known to many for being a spiritual event attracting attendees with it promise of being a festival of experiences, rather than a festival of music. A barren patch of the Black Rock Desert is transformed into the Black Rock City for this wonderfully bizarre festival. There are numerous art installations to enjoy, each year with a theme- Radical Ritual is set for 2017. This event is going to be one you never forget!

Bestival

Where? Lulworth Estate, Dorset.
When? 7th-10th September.
Cost: £191 including booking fee for a weekend ticket.

Featuring feel-good well-known acts mingled with new up and coming artists along with DJs, the event features vintage sound systems and quirky props. There are plenty of side-performances to entertain all. It describes itself as a “4-day boutique music festival”. Additional excitement comes from night parades, the world’s largest confetti canon and a themed fancy dress party on the Sunday night. This year, catch The XX, Dizzee Rascal, Rag n Bone Man, Laura Mvula and others.

Creamfields

Where? Daresbury, UK.
When? 24th-27th August 2017.
Cost: From £185 plus the booking fee.

This is one of the most prestigious dance festivals in the world, specialising in live electronic music. 2017 is particularly special as the event celebrates 20 years since its inception. It’s been voted the UK’s number 1 dance event eight times. Over 30 stages are erected for the event for over 300 artists to perform, so you’re sure to be in good hands. Names this year to grace the stages include Diplo, Galantis, Idris Elba, and Sigala.

Rock am Ring/Rock im Park

Where? Mendig/The Zeppelinfeld, Nuremberg, Germany.
When? 2nd-4th June.
Cost: From €210 including camping and 3-day entry.

These two simultaneous events in Germany are a must for rockers. The line-up is designed to be almost completely identical so whichever one you attend, you’re not likely to miss out. Originally planned as a one-off event on the Nurburgring, its popularity leads it to claim its place as the biggest in Germany. Catch Bastille, Liam Gallagher, Rammstein, Slaves, and Sum 41, to name a few.

Isle of Wight Festival

Where? Isle of Wight, UK.
When? 8th-11th June.
Cost: Weekend tickets from £195.

With a successful history dating back to 1968, this festival is famous for its legendary and exclusive headliners. If you want to experience an act you won’t see anywhere else, this is the festival for you. It’s been acknowledged as Europe’s answer to Woodstock. The lucrative history is illustrated through the ages by its numerous awards. This year catch a variety of artists from Rod Stewart to The Vamps, Run DMC to Texas.

Ultra Europe

Where? Poljud Stadium, Split, Croatia.
When? 14h-16th July.
Cost: General admission to the main 3-dau UE event €169.

Ultra Europe is actually part of a larger chain of events spreading across Split, Brac, Hvar and Vis running from July 13th to 19th. The events combine world-class DJs, state of the art sound systems, light shows and fireworks to celebrate the best of current electronic music. The line-up for 2017 is yet to be announced, but 2016 included Afrojack, Alesso, Nero and Martin Garrix.

Which festivals will be on your circuit this year?

Whatever your taste in music, there’s bound to be something above that caters for you. There are an extraordinary amount of festivals that take place annually, far too many for us to cover in one post. Glastonbury is an obvious one we’ve missed but it’s so legendary that you’ve really got to be prepared for ticket sales to get one- they sell out in a matter of minutes!
